IXL Math App on Ipad and Iphone Update

IXL

IXL Math Practice also on Ipad and Iphone

By IXL Learning

Open iTunes to  download Free app
Update on IXL Math and Ipad and Iphone:
Originally, IXL did not work with Safari as a browser when Adobe was required for graphics. That does not seem to be an issue anymore. There is also a free app for IXL that works in Grades Pre-K through 6. My caution with the app is that students will need to sign in with the "@wmtps" tree to give students credit for WM use. If they go in from our WM website, that is not required.
More info on IXL and app:

You child has an IXL account and log in. If you have any questions please email me at mary.keyser@wmtps.org

If you go to IXL.com you will need to add @wmtps on to the end of the user name.
Example: mkeyser@wmtps

How Computers Can Teach You How to Think

"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer....because it teaches you how to think."

Watch this 5 minute video from some of the top computer innovators in the country.
And then try your hand at writing some computer code at:

http://code.org/  Choose "Students Learn in Minutes" under the video.
Go to Scratch tab and right under that video explore Scratch computer programming.

http://www.codecademy.com/

Have fun!

Dear Parents,

We live in a world surrounded by technology. But only a tiny fraction of us learn the basics of how computers work, or how to create software technology.

Computer Science provides a foundation for virtually any career. The basics can be learned by anybody, starting in elementary school. But fewer than 10% of students try. Only 2% are women. 1% are students of color.

Programming literacy will be key to your child’s future. This year we are joining a massive campaign to prepare students for the 21st century during Computer Science Education Week (Dec 8-14).

The Hour of Code campaign aims to introduce 10 million students to one hour of computer science.

While your children will have the opportunity to participate at school, I encourage you to participate too. You can help introduce others in your community to computer science - whether in an after-school club, a church, labor union, etc.

See http://hourofcode.org for details.Sign up to participate!

Sincerely,

Your teacher
Mrs. Keyser
